Class Description:
Explore acrylic painting in a fun, relaxed environment. Enjoy learning to create original paintings on stretched canvas that reflect vibrant to soft colors through line, shape, texture and dimension. Demonstrations and techniques are presented and practiced during class. Choose your own theme or select from those suggested by the instructor. Basic drawing and composition lessons will be incorporated into each class session. Each week participants can expect to take home a painting, either completed or in-progress for additional work at home or during the next class.
Week 1: Explore mixing and blending colors and practice methods for applying paint to create a basic composition painting on an 8”x10” canvas board.
Week 2: Class will cover techniques designing a composition with a balance of positive and negative space, as well as positioning objects in your painting and how color relationships work in a painting.
Week 3: Learn on how to correct mistakes or make alterations in a painting and techniques for creating texture and applying color hues and line to add dimension and volume. Continue to work on a painting in progress or begin something new.
Week 4: Demonstration on how to prepare and apply glazes. Discussion and examples of acrylic paintings done with palette knives to create raised textures that participants may wish to try on their own as another acrylic painting technique.
Week 5: During this final class, students will learn how to determine when their painting is complete, adding finishing touches, and sealing their completed paintings. Question & answer session will wrap up this 5-week Painting with Acrylics for Beginners Class.
Meet The Instructor:
I am a multimedia artist who enjoys Art in all its forms and enjoys teaching and working with people of all ages. I received an Art/Art Education degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Throughout my years as an artist, I have enjoyed my career as an art teacher in the Wisconsin Public Schools system along with my teaching of private and small-group Art classes to children, adults and parent/child workshop classes. My focus as an instructor is to foster the individual creativity of each student as I introduce specific skills they can apply to their Art.
I am a long time resident of Lake Geneva and have been a member of the Geneva Lake Arts Foundation since 2019. I regularly exhibit my art in watercolor, pastel, mixed media and acrylic at Gallery 223 where I have been an art instructor for both children and adults for the past several years. I am looking forward to working with my next group of students!
