GLAF held its annual Student Art Show from April 11 - 14, 2024, with a celebratory Open House on April 11. Students representing eight local high schools had the opportunity to show their work and compete for prizes. Congratulations to the winners, and to all who participated!
Geneva Lake Arts Foundation, Inc. is proud to announce winners of the Annual High School Art Show at their Gallery 223, located at 223 Broad Street in downtown Lake Geneva. Area high schools, including Badger, Big Foot, Catholic Central, Delavan/Darien, East Troy, Elkhorn, Whitewater and Williams Bay were each invited to submit 10 pieces of artwork created by their students. These pieces, which include paintings, drawings, sculpture and more were on display at a special showing at Gallery 223. The winning entries were selected by professional artist and former art teacher Lisa Dukowitz and announced at a reception for the winners at the Gallery on April 11.
Multitalented artist and GLAF member Lisa Dukowitz judged the show. She earned her MFA degree from the UW Milwaukee Peck School of the Arts in Painting and Drawing. She also studied printmaking abroad at the Santa Reparata International School of Art in Florence, Italy. Lisa was an art educator for 21 years with a strong preference for upper-level high school students. She won the coveted Herb Kohl National Foundation Teacher Fellowship as well as multiple gold keys in the Scholastic Art and Writing Award competitions. She has recently set aside teaching to concentrate on her creative talents. Lisa’s work can often be seen at Gallery 223.
Thanks to GLAF’s (l to r) Sarah McConnell, Vice-President and Gallery Director, judge Lisa Dukowitz and President Nikki Marsicano, who organized the 8th annual High School Student Art Show, with submissions from area high schools.
“We’re excited about the Student Art Show and about encouraging students in their pursuit of the arts,” says Show Coordinator Sarah McConnell. “The GLAF was formed for the purpose of encouraging individual artistic growth and excellence.”
